Environment and Natural Resources
Sustainability of development and growth of nations require efficient and judicious use of available resources, some of which are exhaustible while others are degradable. With increasing population, the pressure on environment is likely to increase in terms of agriculture and forestry activities, and exploitation of land, water, energy and biological resources. Increasingly adverse impact on soil and aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity offer risk to sustainability of development process. Environmental degradation also creates imbalances in nature leading to problems of health, scarcity and long term risks to income generating potential. Pollution of air and water have cross border effects also leading to geo-political issues. Thus, there are issues of local, regional and global sustainability. And in this context it has become important to verify, implement and monitor the policies for sustainable development. CGDR endeavours to understand the complex interactions between development and environment including the environmental impacts of socio-economic development in domestic and global economies..
